A lovely edition of this famous work, illustrated with numerous illustrations and a further thirty-two exceptionally bright full colour plates. Collated, complete.
First published in 1861, this extensive guide to managing a household was a best-selling book. By 1868, it had sold nearly two million copies, making it an extremely popular guide held as standard by many at the time. By 1907, the work spanned over two thousand pages. After her death in 1865, Beetons guidebook continued in its popularity and saw countless edition and revision throughout the following centuries, keeping it up to date with contemporary tastes.
With numerous fascinating contemporary adverts throughout, including to both pastedowns and free endpapers, and with ten further pages of advertisements to the rear, including for such familiar items as Lea & Perrins Sauce.
This edition dated c1936 via pagination from Jisc.
CONDITION
In the publishers original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with some light shelf wear and light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. A spot to the spine and a few light marks to the boards. Internally, front hinge is lightly strained. Remaining binding is firm. A few handling marks to the the pages, which are otherwise bright and clean.
